The role of the Office of Web Communications is to devise, coordinate and optimize the University's Internet presence as an element of the institution's overall communications strategy.
The Office of Web Communications is responsible for building and managing the top levels of the University of Alabama web presence and for providing direction, support, coordination and consultation for web and social media initiatives campus-wide.
In order to create a more unified brand, enhanced user experience and improved web infrastructure, we are leading the charge to implement a new enterprise web content management system, OU Campus.
UA-branded web templates based on the design and functionality of the UA Home Page are available for use by any official unit of The University of Alabama. The templates are built on a custom responsive framework based on Bootstrap, and offer many pre-built design and layout options to aid in web development. The framework also ensures maximum flexibility and customization options, and includes all the tools you'll need to build a robust UA website of any size and scope.
The UA WordPress Theme extends the functionality of the UA Web Templates to a content management system platform, ideal for large-scale websites with frequent content updates by non-technical content providers. The WordPress Themes are based on the same framework as UA.edu and the UA Web Templates, but offer prebuilt plug-and-play pages and formats for WordPress, and allow customization of the site's specifics within the admin panel of WordPress.
UA-themed responsive HTML e-mail templates are available for use by any official unit of The University of Alabama. The templates are tested to be as widely-compatible as possible with a wide range of e-mail clients, and are responsive and optimized for mobile devices.
Web Communications is responsible for developing strategy for and managing UA's top-level social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, Vimeo and LinkedIn. In addition, guidelines and best practices for social media are are available for use by all UA social media channels, and are recommended for all social media managers at UA.
